"My people will live in peaceful dwelling places,
in secure homes, in undisturbed places of rest." -- Isaiah 32:18
In case you missed it, this February, we shared stories about the work done by our Housing Department, information on the biggest threats to safe housing faced by our clients, and helpful advice regarding housing-related topics. We kicked off the month with a message from Staff Attorney Chase Haller on “The Hidden Housing Crisis.”
We also released two videos with helpful information titled, “Is Your Landlord Failing to Make Necessary Repairs?” and “Are You Struggling to Pay Your Mortgage?”
On social media this month, we shared the story of a client named Bailey who fell behind on his mortgage after his home was damaged in a fire. We also introduced you to a woman named Rose, who was being targeted by her property manager; married couple Cassandra and David and their guardianship case; and a veteran named Brandon, who needed assistance with an expungement.
And, for Valentine’s Day, we shared a video letting you know how much we love you!
On the blog this month, we learned more about Indiana Hardest Hit Fund and the Clinic’s Helping Hoosier Homeowners Program. We also highlighted our partners at the Fair Housing Center of Central Indiana.
NPR featured the work of our Expungement Help Desk, sharing the story of one of our former clients, Latosha Poston, along with information on Second Chance laws across the country.
On February 28, we co-hosted an event with Habitat for Humanity of Greater Indianapolis. The evening featured Matthew Desmond, Pulitzer Prize-winning writer of the groundbreaking book Evicted. During his talk, Matthew shared the truth about the hidden housing crisis we face in this country through the stories of people who have experienced eviction. Check back this March as we’ll be sharing stories about the work done by our Low Income Taxpayer Clinic, information on the biggest scams that threaten our clients, and helpful tips and resources for those who are facing tax-related issues.
