“But seek the welfare of the city where I have sent you into exile,
and pray to the Lord on its behalf, for in its welfare you will find your welfare.” -- Jeremiah 29:7
In case you missed it, this month, we’ve been taking a close look at the impact and importance of the Legal Clinic's neighborhood roots in our community. Also this month, thanks to the generosity of several families, we've been able to match every contribution up to $25,000! You are making an impact. Not only have we secured our match, but our community has rallied, raising a combined $84,875—and we're still going strong!
Your continued support makes our work possible. We invite you to join this campaign because our communities flourish when everyone has access to justice.
On the blog this month, Executive Director Chris Purnell shared the grim reality of the unmet civil legal needs in Indiana. But we also created a lighthearted video highlighting the return on investment when you give to Indiana legal aid organizations.
We shared numerous client stories this June, including the difficult story of a young woman who was a victim of trafficking and abuse before she found her way to the Clinic for assistance. On social media, we introduced you to Laila and her husband Anthony, who were falling behind on their mortgage; we also met Craig, a veteran who was struggling with credit card debt. And we shared the beautiful story of Pablo* and his wife:
After 12 years of being separated, Pablo* was finally reunited with his wife and three sons at the airport! Our Victim Justice Program helped Pablo to apply for a U visa and, once he was approved, he was able to petition to bring his family over as well. We are so grateful for the opportunity to facilitate such family reunifications through our legal work. Please join us in praying for many blessings over Pablo and his family!
We closed out the month on a bittersweet note, as we said goodbye to our Volunteer Coordinator of three years, Kathleen Bloxsome. She will now be the Executive Director of Purchased, a local nonprofit that seeks to end modern-day slavery. This also means that we are looking for a new person to join Team Justice and fill Kathleen’s vital role. Application and position description can be found here.
This July, check back as we highlight our Immigrant Justice Program, sharing our hearts for our immigrant neighbors, focusing on compelling client stories, and clarifying the historical context for immigration in this country.
As ever, thank you for your continued support!
