This 1 hour 15 minute training* will be presented by Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic's Director of Legal Services, Brian Dunkel, and will be beneficial for potential or current volunteer attorneys interested in doing intakes at one of the Clinic’s intake sites. Participants will learn more about the Clinic’s vision for intake and how to do high-quality intakes on the most common legal issues that our low-income neighbors confront.

This presentation will provide an overview of the Indiana Civil Protection Order Act and how it can be used to increase the safety of survivors of domestic violence. This presentation will also provide a review of the basic pleadings and forms used in these cases. The U Visa presentation will focus on the U nonimmigrant application process made possible by the Victims of Trafficking and Violence Protection Act (VTVPA). Refugee Adjustment Day (RAD) aims to address a growing need in the Indianapolis immigrant community -- that of helping low-income refugees and their families apply for Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR) status (also known as "Green Card") without the financial burden of hiring private legal assistance. RAD Day volunteers will have the opportunity to play a significant role in changing the lives of refugees right here in Indiana.
Volunteer opportunities are available for attorneys, interpreters (Burmese, Arabic, French, Spanish, Hakha Chin, Karen, Karenni, Tigrinya, Amharic), law students, and general volunteers.
