Victim Justice Program
Legal Intern #AA
1 position, unpaid
10-15 hours per week (flexible)
August 27-December 7, 2018
Description: The legal intern will assist immigrant victims of violent crime with filing victim-based immigration petitions like U Visas and VAWAs. This program is dedicated to helping victims of domestic violence, sexual assault and human trafficking. Duties include: working directly with clients to prepare statements and immigration forms, gathering documentation, providing translations, and doing legal research as needed. Interns will also participate in weekly intake sessions. The intern will be supervised by Annie Anderson, Victim Justice Program Staff Attorney.
The goals of this program are to develop an intern’s legal skills, serve as an introduction to the Victim Justice Program, and provide a deeper understanding of Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic’s prophetic call to “Seek justice, defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow” (Isaiah 1:17).
Qualifications: Law students (1L, 2L or 3L) with a passion that aligns with the Victim Justice Program’s mission to provide civil legal assistance to low-income victims of violent crime. Applicants should feel comfortable working with clients who have suffered from violent crimes. Knowledge and fluency in Spanish is a plus. Undergrads fluent in Spanish are also encouraged to apply.

Submit all materials by July 16, 2018 to the attention of Kathleen Bloxsome, Volunteer Coordinator at firstname.lastname@example.org.
