Description: The intern will be supervised by Erica Harrigan, Victim Justice Program Staff Attorney.  Interns will assist immigrant victims of violent crime with filing victim-based immigration petitions like U Visas and VAWAs. The intern will work directly with clients to prepare statements, immigration forms, gather documentation, provide translations, and do legal research as needed.  Interns will also participate in weekly intake sessions.

The goal of this program is to introduce interns to the Victim Justice Program, develop legal skills and provide a deeper understanding of the Clinic’s prophetic call to “Seek justice, defend the oppressed. Take up the cause of the fatherless; plead the case of the widow. (Isaiah 1:17).  

Qualifications: Law students (1L, 2L or 3L) or Spanish speaking undergrads with a passion that aligns with Victim Justice Program’s mission to provide holistic civil legal assistance to low-income victims of violent crime. Applicants should feel comfortable working with clients who have suffered from violent crimes. Ability to speak Spanish is preferable.
