Babra Chakanyuka – Program Manager

Babra has spent much of her career working with vulnerable communities, even before coming to the United States. As an immigrant herself, she has faced many challenges that continue to influence and confirm for her that she is in the right place with the Clinic now. “My faith leads the work I do because that is my source of strength each day,” she says. “I remind myself every day that God … uplifts our spirits and others and that our faith in him provides guidance and answers where we are challenged.” Babra loves to serve clients and is currently working toward becoming an Accredited Representative so that she can assist with immigration proceedings in the future.

Laura Pontius

Laura Pontius – Immigration Outreach Attorney, Ft. Wayne Advisory Committee

Laura first became involved with the Clinic as a Ft. Wayne Advisory Committee member several years ago. Now, she is a part-time staff member who helps carry out immigrant legal outreach programs and seminars in the Northeastern Indiana region. She sees being at the Clinic as an opportunity to use her professional skills and talents to love and serve others in a tangible way. “Coming alongside those that are in desperate situations and showing love and compassion is the work and heart of Jesus,” she says. “Even more, fighting for justice for each and every client so clearly reflects the heart of God's love for every person.” Although she understands that it is not her job to solve the problem of injustice in the world, Laura says, “I know that if I can help one person, it makes a world of difference.”

Randy Brown

Randy Brown

D. Randall Brown – Board of Directors, Ft. Wayne Advisory Committee

Randy’s firm, Barnes & Thornburg, LLP, is a longtime supporter of the Clinic and, when the opportunity arose for him to join the Clinic Board, he jumped at it. He says, “As a lawyer practicing for 28 years, I have seen first-hand how the costs associated with the legal process can impede access and justice to those in need.” This direct experience in the legal field along with his faith have led Randy to care deeply about the people the Clinic serves. “I am most excited about our efforts in aid of the substantial immigrant community in Northern Indiana,” he says. “Working with local churches, foundations, and community leaders, we can make a significant impact on the lives of many.”
