Board Spotlight with Kendall Millard

Written by Alexandra Ross, Marketing & Communications Coordinator

Kendall Millard is a longtime supporter and friend of Neighborhood Christian Legal Clinic. In this Board Spotlight, we will learn more about him, why he supports the Clinic’s work, and why he believes everyone should attend this year’s Justice for All (JFA) Celebration.

When he isn’t working with the Clinic, Millard is an attorney and partner at Barnes & Thornburg, LLP, a law firm that has been walking alongside the Clinic since our inception in 1994. His area of law is in antitrust and export control, which differs significantly from the work he does with the Clinic. Millard is a longtime volunteer at the Clinic, working with the Immigrant & Survivor Justice Program on asylum cases for the past 17 years. He began working with us when Lynn Tyler, a former Clinic board member, talked to him about the need for assistance with asylum cases, which came as a surprise to Millard. Until he began directly working on these types of cases, he didn’t know how great of a need there was for legal services for those seeking asylum in the state of Indiana. During our interview, he spoke about how when it comes to asylum cases, the legal system is hard to navigate, even with a skilled attorney. The Clinic “may be the only way that they can stay in the United States, potentially life or death for them.”

Along with being a longtime volunteer, Millard also is a valued member of the Clinic’s board. He enjoys being on our board because he gets to collaborate with many like-minded attorneys and community partners with the same passions as him. He also has learned more about the Clinic’s services while being a board member, broadening his perspective on our overall mission to promote justice for all our neighbors.

Millard’s firm, Barnes & Thornburg, LLP, has been a longtime supporter of the Clinic’s work, specifically Justice for All (JFA) Celebration 2023. He believes attending JFA 2023 is an excellent way to learn more about the Clinic’s mission and scope of work by seeing how clients’ lives are impacted after working with us through their personal stories. This event is also a great way to network with people in the community who share the same interest in promoting justice and equity for all. This year specifically, Millard is looking forward to hearing the diverse perspectives regarding justice during our panel discussion with some of our knowledgeable community partners from faith-based and legal communities alike.

When Millard isn’t helping to support our work at the Clinic, he enjoys traveling domestically and internationally for both work and vacation. He recently got married to his beautiful wife, Angel, and they enjoyed their honeymoon on an adventurous Baltic Sea cruise, visiting 6 Scandinavian countries.

Here at the Clinic, we are so thankful for Kendall Millard’s ongoing support along with our longtime partnership with Barnes & Thornburg, LLP. You make a substantial difference in promoting our mission and work throughout Central Indiana. Thank you again from all of us at the Clinic!
