U Visa Clinic Day aims to address a growing need in the Indianapolis immigrant community -- that of helping low-income immigrant victims of crime to apply for U Nonimmigrant Status (U Visa) without the financial burden of hiring private legal assistance. Volunteering Saturday, July 22nd, provides a chance to interact directly with clients in a meaningful way and be a part of an important step in empowering our immigrant neighbors to have a voice and seek justice for themselves.
In the morning, Staff Attorney Erica Harrigan will deliver a briefing on how to properly complete U Visa paperwork. Afterwards, volunteers will help clients complete their U Visa paperwork.
Volunteer opportunities are available for attorneys, interpreters (Spanish), law students, and general volunteers. Lunch will be provided.
8:30 am – 4 pm (attorneys)
