Housing & Consumer Justice Program

Housing-related Issues

Our team can assist with housing law issues, such as evictions, security deposits, repairs, and accessibility issues. Our office DOES NOT provide financial assistance for housing matters.

Consumer-related Issues

Our attorneys can offer information and assistance with consumer law such as debt collection and garnishments for clients whose income is at or below 125% of the Federal Poverty Guidelines.

Tenant Advocacy Project (TAP)

Indianapolis has one of the highest rates of evictions in the United States. Due to growing eviction rate concerns, the City of Indianapolis launched the Tenant Advocacy Project (or TAP). This program provides attorneys and tenant navigators in eight out of nine township small claims courts.

The Clinic collaborates with the Mayor’s Office of Public Health and Safety, Indiana Legal Services (ILS), and Indianapolis Legal Aid Society (ILAS) to provide TAP information and free legal services. Our Housing team is accepting walk-in clients—free of charge—on a first-come, first-served basis at the Washington Township Small Claims Court (WTSCC) and Decatur Small Claims Court (DSCC). Our TAP availability is found below.

If you need immediate assistance, you can contact the Tenant Information Hotline at 317-327-2228.
