"Did You Know?" #10

DID YOU KNOW that Monday, October 16th is the tax filing extension deadline for your 2022 tax return?

If you filed a request for an extension by April 18, 2023, the IRS gave you an additional six months to file your return. That makes the new due date Monday, October 16th. Be sure to file your return by that date!

If you file by paper, we always recommend mailing your tax return by certified mail. A return receipt is requested to prove what date you mailed the return. There are free fillable forms at https://www.irs.gov/e-file-providers/free-file-fillable-forms.

If you prepare your taxes online and your income is under $73,000, you can use the IRS Free File program https://apps.irs.gov/app/freeFile.

If you need help preparing your taxes, Indiana has a couple of VITA (Volunteer Income Tax Assistance) sites that are still open and can prepare your income tax return for free if your income is below $66,000. Those sites are TRG Community Hands in Indianapolis, phone number 317-721-3711, and Natco Community Empowerment Center in Richmond, phone number 765-983-4766. Both sites require an appointment.
