Adieu, November!

This November, for the first time, the Clinic participated in the Spirit & Place Festival, partnering with Brookside Community Church and RecycleForce. As part of the festival, the Clinic shared a five-part video series that highlights the challenges faced by citizens with criminal records, as well as the power they can reclaim over their own lives through expungement and specialized driving privileges.

All five of the clients featured in the video series received assistance through Project GRACE. According to a study from the Center for Criminal Justice Research, part of the Indiana University Public Policy Initiative, even a 1% decrease in Marion County's recidivism rate could save taxpayers $1.5 million. To help support the work of Project GRACE, please consider making a donation this #GivingTuesday.

This past Thanksgiving week, we shared our gratitude for Staff Attorney Dee Dee Gowan, a veteran and current Director of the Low Income Taxpayer Clinic, and we celebrated her receiving a grant through the 2017 Human Services Professional Renewal Program. Also this month, Executive Director Chris Purnell shared his thoughts on brokenness and what it means to be a new creation in Christ.

Be sure to check back in with the blog this December as we share more client stories, program highlights, and the next episode of our Courting Justice podcast!

Until then, adieu, November!
